Faculty Leadership Mentor Program Applications
The NLN/Johnson & Johnson 2010-2011 Faculty Leadership and Mentoring Program

Call for Applications

The NLN Foundation for Nursing Education is pleased to announce the fourth cycle of the NLN/Johnson & Johnson Faculty Leadership and Mentoring Program. The program pairs five early and mid-career faculty members with five NLN Academy of Nursing Education fellows who are recognized leaders in nursing education. Over a 12-month period, protégés and mentors will work together on individual leadership development as well as a group project to be presented at the 2011 NLN Education Summit in Orlando, Florida.

Protégés will be selected through a competitive application process.

The deadline for accepting applications is July 20, 2010.

Benefits to Protégés
Year-round individual mentoring from an NLN Academy of Nursing Education fellow.
Relationship-building with a cohort of like-minded professionals in nursing education.
Recognition as an emerging leader in nursing education.
Registration and basic travel expenses including airfare to attend three team meetings: New York City, October 2010; leadership conference or other meeting in early 2011; and NLN Education Summit in Orlando, September 2011.
$1,000 stipend.

Responsibilities of Protégés
Attend the three team meetings.
Work with a mentor and team members to design and implement a plan for developing individual leadership.
Work with team members to create a paper presentation focused on leadership in nursing education to be presented at the 2011 NLN Education Summit.
Develop a method to maintain communication between protégés and mentors that allows for reflection and analysis of leadership experiences.
Participate in group conference calls and e-communities as determined by the project director.

Criteria for Protégé Selection
Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
Indication of leadership potential in nursing education.
Evidence of current and/or recent full-time employment in nursing education (at least three of the past five years).
Evidence of administrative support for project participation.
Evidence of strong communication skills in application materials.
NLN individual or faculty membership.

Note: Johnson & Johnson and the NLN Foundation worked together from 2002 through 2005 to provide scholarships for future nurse educators through the Promise of Nursing (PON) Regional Faculty Fellowship Program. To further support these new faculty members, preference will be given to past PON Fellowship recipients who satisfy all selection criteria.
